All Bay Isulation & HVAC should be your first choice for air duct services & home insulation installation. We offer a variety of services to keep homeowners and business owners in the Bay Area, and San Diego, Ca areas safe and comfortable. Your indoor comfort is important to us, so we offer attic insulation, air quality testing, and more.

Attic Insulation

At All Bay Insulation & HVAC in San Jose, we know that homeowners constantly have repairs and upkeep to worry about. If you’re always thinking of ways to protect your home from the elements, one cost-effective solution is installing proper crawlspace or attic insulation for your property.

Attics and crawlspaces can be huge sources of energy loss if not insulated properly. There are many cracks and small weak areas that go unseen in your attic. This contributes to chilly drafts and higher energy bills. You also increase your chances of having a mold problem in your attic! Proper attic insulation may be more important than you realize.

Proper attic insulation can help to reduce your energy costs and keep your home comfortable. In addition to energy efficiency, attic insulation can also help reduce outside noise.

Air Duct Cleaning, Repair & Replacement

Over time, air ducts become coated with dust, dirt, and other allergens and contaminants. Although you cannot see inside them, this build-up can affect the efficiency of your HVAC system, as well as the quality of the air in your home. If you suspect that there is a problem with your air ducts, our team at All Bay Attic Insulation can help. We offer thorough air duct cleaning services and can help you if your air ducts are beyond cleaning.

A few reasons to repair or replace your air ducts include:

  • The insulation have built up with moisture

  • The ducts have aged and are no longer strong

  • The insulation is of poor quality

  • The environmental conditions are harsh

  • The air cleaning system in your home is created to equip you with a regular flow of healthy air which in the result should be free of pollutants. And it is important to know that without proper and efficient cleaning it is quite possible that it is literally spilling out allergens and toxins into the atmosphere around you. Thus, it is strongly recommended to hire experts in air duct cleaning such as All Bay Insulation & Air Duct Cleaning, which is absolutely ready to help you! Our main goal is to bring you the highest level of top-notch quality and excellence for a reasonable price. And, of course, we have all documentation and certification of our work for your peace of mind.

Air Sealing

When was the last time you had your attic inspected and tested for air pressure? Few homeowners think about these types of things, but attic insulation and air sealing can actually help save homeowners on monthly utility and energy bills. With the proper air testing and leakage sealing from the team at All Bay Air Duct Cleaning, you can increase the energy efficiency in your home! Not to mention, you can increase your comfort at home, too.

Our initial blower test will determine the amount of current air leakage your property has. We can even detect where the leak is coming from, which helps us when sealing your home.

Air sealing is an important part of the solution to energy inefficiency, but it needs to be done in conjunction with other actions to make it as effective as possible.

Neither air sealing and insulating do that well alone: they need each other to be at their best. And once a building is sealed, controlled ventilation through vents and fans is necessary to keep up the quality level of the indoor air you and your family breathe every day.

We offer the full gamut of energy efficiency services, from air sealing to installing new insulation, to ventilating, to attic cleaning and rodent proofing. We can take care of any one of these tasks for you or tackle multiple tasks at once, according to your needs and preferences.

The most obvious benefit of air sealing your building will be seen in the lower monthly energy bills you'll soon enjoy.

But you'll also benefit because your indoor living spaces will heat/cool faster and stay comfortable easier and for longer. And you'll reduce contaminants and allergens in your indoor air. You'll breathe better and feel more comfortable around the house.

An air seal also helps to reduce moisture build up, which can prevent mold and mildew and damage to drywall, base boards, roof joists, attic insulation, and more.

And last but not least, air sealing helps you to take some pressure off the environment and lower our collective carbon footprint in Northern California.

Dryer Vent Cleaning

We completely clean and inspect your dryer vent system searching for kinks, leaks, holes or obstructions that will cause your dryer to work harder than normal and let you know about any potential hazards, unsafe operating conditions or other situations that may need to be fixed. We can then repair or replace any ducting if needed.

Good indications that you need your dryer duct cleaned are:

  • Drying your clothes/towels for more than one cycle

  • Little or no air exhausting out of the vent outside

  • Noticeable build up of excessive heat

  • Dryer breaks down frequently       Your dryer vent is a hidden fire hazard. Most people think that cleaning out their lint screen is all thats necessary, however cleaning your lint screen is not enough. A clean lint screen can only trap up to 75% of the lint produced from your dryer. What is not trapped by the lint screen can build up over time in the ducting, reducing airflow and causing an increase of heat build-up which could lead to a fire at any time. Dryer lint is extremely flammable!

Energy Audit

Our home energy efficiency audits or energy efficiency assessment is a detailed examination of your home with an energy auditor, with the purpose of finding where your home is losing energy. It is impossible to know for sure where your home is losing energy through leaks in windows, ductwork, insulation levels until you get a home energy audit.

When do you need an energy audit?

Some signs that you need a home energy efficiency audit include:

  • Leaky windows and doors

  • Drafts in your home

  • High electric or gas bills

Typically, there are also additional sources of energy leaks that will reduce your home comfort and cost you on your energy bills. Insulation levels in attics and walls, heating and cooling systems including ductwork can also waste a significant amount of energy.  Energy leaks are hard to locate without the correct equipment. We can provide an energy assessment of your home, by performing the necessary tests to identify comfort and efficiency issues.

Blower door 1 - Energy Conservatory-main

Blower Door Testing

The Blower Door test involves fitting an adjustable fan inside a flexible nylon frame that's placed into an exterior door frame. The fan pulls the air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. The higher outside air pressure will gain access to the interior through unsealed cracks and openings (a process called infiltration), in places like door jams, window and floor moldings, and even recessed lighting fixtures. While the house is depressurized, we tour the house with a smoke puffer to find these holes in the building envelope. We document these sites in both written and picture form so they can be later identified for air sealing upgrades. The blower door fan is attached to a pressure gauge (Manometer), which measure airflow and the relative leakiness of a building. Air Changes per Hour (ACH) is a measurement of how many times the volume of air in a building leaves or enters the building, in one hour. We determine this by the fan pressure measurement and calculate cubic feet per minute (CFM) of airflow through the fan. Leakier houses have higher ACH's, and therefore higher cooling and heating expenses, and increased problems with comfort, indoor air quality, health, and moisture intrusion.

Duct Leakage Testing

A duct leakage tester is a diagnostic tool designed to measure the airtightness of forced air heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) ductwork. A duct leakage tester consists of a calibrated fan for measuring an air flow rate and a pressure sensing device to measure the pressure created by the fan flow. The combination of pressure and fan flow measurements are used to determine the ductwork airtightness. The airtightness of ductwork is useful knowledge when trying to improve energy conservation.

Spray Foam Insulation: Open and Closed Cell

Closed-cell polyurethane spray foam is among the most efficient insulating materials available at retail, with R-values commonly around 6.0 per inch.  Closed-cell polyurethane foam insulation includes an insulating gas that is retained within the cells (foam "blowing agent"), which leads to the highly efficient insulating properties of the material.  In the U.S., insulation is measured in "R-Value" (R= resistance to heat flow), and closed-cell polyurethane spray foam has among the highest R-Values of any commercially available insulation.  In addition, the closed-cell polyurethane spray foam insulation provides for a highly effective air barrier, low moisture vapor permeability (often referred to as the "Perm" rating), and excellent resistance to water.  The most common foam density for closed-cell polyurethane foam is approximately 2.0 pounds per cubic foot.  Years of research and commercial experience has shown that the 1.75 – 2.25 lb/ft³ density range provides the best insulating and strength characteristics for most building applications.  Closed-cell polyurethane foams are normally characterized by their rigidity and strength, in addition to the high R-Value.  Also, studies show that wall racking strength can by doubled or tripled when closed cell foam is applied.

Open-cell Spray Foam, on the other hand, is usually found in densities ranging from 0.4 to 1.2 lbs/ft³.  One of the advantages that these lower densities provide is a more economical yield, since foam density is directly related to yield (lower density = higher yield).  Although the R-value of open-cell foams is slightly more than half that of closed-cell foams, usually around 3.5 per inch, these products can still provide excellent thermal insulating and air barrier properties.  Open-cell spray foam is more permeable to moisture vapor, with perm ratings of approximately 16 per 3 inches thickness (up to 30-35 perms at one inch). However, the open-cell spray insulation foam allows for a very controlled diffusion of moisture vapor whose consistency can be managed by the builder / architect.  Open Cell foam should not be used in exterior applications, or applications where it can be in direct contact with water.  Open-cell foam insulation is incredibly effective as a noise insulation foam, having about twice the sound resistance in normal frequency ranges as closed-cell foam.  However, they are not recommended for "flash & batt" applications.  Other characteristics of open-cell polyurethane foam usually include a softer, "spongier" appearance, as well as lower strength and rigidity than closed-cell foams.

Crawlspace Vapor Barrier

We offer a variety of services to increase indoor comfort and peace of mind for our customers. In fact, before any insulation is removed or installed in your home, attic cleaning is an important first step.

If your crawl space has been neglected or has gone without cleaning for years, our attic cleaning experts will inspect it to determine what needs to be done. This will give us an idea about how to install an effective crawl space barrier to protect your insulation and make it more durable over the years. This barrier helps prevent mold, mildew, and odors in your crawl space and attic.

Our professional attic cleaning services may include:

  • Odor elimination

  • Mold remediation

  • Dead animal removal

  • Feces removal

Our attic clean-up crew understands the importance of getting your crawl space clean. We know that you won’t have peace of mind until you’re sure we’ve done a thorough job. We use a checklist when applying a crawl space vapor barrier, and this process ensures that we cover all our bases. The vapor barrier can help immensely with odor elimination, and it can help prevent diseases being carried into your home by rodents

Infrared Camera Energy Audit

An energy audit can help our team understand what is going on with your crawl space and insulation. When performing our energy audit, we can determine how your home is functioning as a whole. The analysis is focused on energy efficiency, comfort problems, indoor air quality, health and safety issues, and durability.

Our thermal camera inspection is the best way to see into your crawl space and determine what work needs to be done. Our camera allows us to take infrared readings of your thermal envelope. This helps us to examine how well your thermal envelope is functioning and shows us improperly installed or missing insulation, air leaks, thermal bypasses, and even moisture issues that may be present.

We will also perform a visual inspection of the thermal envelope to get a good view of exactly what’s going on in these critical areas. The thermal images we obtained from the infrared camera give a good idea of where the bad areas are, but we also check your exhaust ventilation ducting, heating and air conditioning duct work, insulation levels and quality, insulation installation, and anything else we can see that needs attention.

Crawlspace Seal

Crawl space ventilation brings a number of unwanted outside issues into the home -- including summer humidity, rain, snow, and winter cold.
Combined, these forces create a damp, moldy crawl space environment, while the cold affects furnaces, hot water pipes, and other utilities and costs you unnecessarily on your utility bills.
What's The Alternative?
Instead of bringing humidity, moisture, and cold air into the crawl space, our experts seal the crawl space. This closing the vents, installing an airtight door, sealing the walls and floors, and dehumidifying the space..
Once you've created and maintained an encapsulated, dry space, you can ensure that your building materials stay dry, the structure remains strong, and that you make the best of your home's energy usage.
